Spring Term Courses

Children and Families Act 2014 and The SEND Code of Practice – Implications for Schools and Governing Bodies
Thursday 8th March 2018, 9:30 am – 12:30 pm

Target group:

  • All governors, particularly those with responsibility for SEND


Course objective:

This course will introduce the Children and Families Act 2014 and the SEND code of practice which contains statutory guidance for all education and relevant health and social care agencies as well as all early years settings, schools and colleges. The session will cover:


  • The main changes to the SEND system and values and drivers underpinning change
  • Implications for Leicester City schools and governing bodies around supporting good outcomes for children and young people with SEND
  • Leicester City’s SEND vision
  • Impartial information, advice and support
  • Local offer
  • The statutory EHC assessment process
  • Resolving disagreements, mediation and appeals
